Thrifted Treasures: My Growing Vintage Soup Mug Collection

I never set out to collect vintage soup mugs—but the best collections often happen by accident. There’s something about stumbling across a quirky little piece of the past that just speaks to your heart. That’s exactly how this happy little collection began.

I found the oxtail soup mug last month while thrifting with Kaitlyn for her 13th birthday. It was such a fun mother-daughter day, and the mug just felt like a little bonus treasure. Then last week, I found three more—chicken and two tomato—on Facebook Marketplace. The seller lived about an hour away, but she was kind enough to ship them to me. They arrived in perfect condition, carefully wrapped, with a sweet Bible verse handwritten inside the packaging 🥰.

A few days later, I happened to spy another beauty – mushroom – in a separate Marketplace ad. It was almost hidden, sitting quietly at the bottom of a bookshelf in the photo. Needless to say, I called the seller immediately and bought it over the phone. My husband picked it up on his way home, and now it’s nestled in happily with the rest.

There’s just something about these vintage soup mugs—the cheerful colors, the cozy nostalgia, the hunt to find them—that makes my heart so happy. I’m not sure how big this collection will grow, but for now, it’s a sweet reminder that joy can be found in the most unexpected places.

Do you collect anything that brings you joy? I’d love to hear about your favorite collection in the comments.

“…God richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
