An Unexpected Morning Harvest: Yarrow, Echinacea, and Red Clover
Sometimes the harvest calls to you—whether you’re ready for it or not.
This morning, I was just going about my usual routine. Letting the ducklings out of their coop and refilling their water. Then the yarrow caught my eye. It looked especially radiant in the morning light, its tiny white blooms standing tall and full. I hadn’t planned on harvesting anything, but the moment felt right. So I grabbed the bottom of my shirt and started plucking.

Before long, the echinacea chimed in. A few of its beautiful pink blooms were begging to be gathered. I gently added them to my makeshift pouch, petals standing out against the soft white yarrow.

As I rounded the corner, I spotted a patch of red clover, vibrant and full of life. It practically called out to be included. So I scooped up a handful of those familiar purple blossoms, tucking them in with the rest.

By the time I was done, I had an impromptu bundle of purple, white, and green. A spontaneous bouquet of some of the most beloved medicinal herbs in my garden. They’re now laid out carefully on a drying screen. Where they’ll rest until they’re ready to be turned into teas and tinctures.

Each of these herbs brings something beautiful to the table:
Yarrow is a potent antiviral and a trusted ally during cold and flu season.
Echinacea supports the immune system and is often used at the first sign of illness.
Red clover shines in skin support, hormonal balance, and cardiovascular health.
Sometimes the best medicine is gathered not with a plan, but with presence.
Have you ever worked with any of these herbs? What’s your favorite herbal remedy to harvest or prepare?
“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth.”
—Psalm 104:14 (NIV)
